Weight Discovery Logic
The secret that packs so much punch under the hood - the thing that lets you grab weight off any barcode in the world – rests on our proprietary Vari-Scan Weight Capture Technology. With it, your company is able to point the scanner at a barcode containing the weight and we read it. You don’t need to keep cumbersome lists of vendor and packer weight formats. Many packing plants have their own standards for encoding the weight that's barcoded and placed on each box. Countries differ in standards regarding weight encoding on barcodes; some countries have no standards, leaving the packing plant or vendor to decide their own format.
Weight Algorithm, not vendor/packer tables
AMM's Catchweight Module does not rely on lookup tables to determine the particular vendor’s weight encoding method, as some other software companies do. Why? Imagine having to keep up with all the vendors and all the packers weight barcode formats! And what if they change their barcode? Using an algorithm that’s battle tested and proven to work on meat produced around the world is the safest, fastest and most reliable way to obtain the weight. Our Vari-Scan Weight Capture Technology is a complex algorithm that has been refined using actual data to ensure the highest degree of accuracy.
Duplication Check
This feature can be turned on or off and prevent duplicate barcodes per order.

Product Check
This is helpful for very similar looking product
that could result in the wrong product being sent out.
We can enable this when the barcode has a product code embedded
anywhere within it. If that product code is different
than the one you use — all we would require is a cross-reference
table, and this module takes care of the rest.

Date Code Check
Sometimes, customers want a specific date code range for a given lot on outbounds. If a date code is encoded anywhere in the barcode, we can prevent out-of-range boxes from being scanned.

Weight Range Check.
We offer three types of checks on weight.
Absolute Minimum/Maximum Weight Check
1. A minimum and maximum weight allowance is stored in the scanner. If exceeded, the operator will not be able to continue until the problem is rectified. Very small or very large weights could be the result of accidentally typing in a wrong weight during the Discovery process, or could result from a garbled barcode.
Relative Weight Check
2. Optionally, a percentage deviation can be specified,
so that weights outside this range will result in a warning.
We use a Median value as opposed to an Average, because Median
produces a number that more accurately reflects the ‘'center'
weight.
Product-based Weight Check
3. As an optional enhancement, we have the ability to ensure that the weight scanned is within the range given by the product master table.

Shortage Handling
Shorts are sometimes missed in WMS, due to the poor software connection between the warehouse and the office. We begin to bridge that gap with the Vari-Weight Catchweight Scan Module by capturing shorts on the scanner. This will automatically update WMS with the new, lower quantity. We hold onto the original requested quantity as well.

Order "Tag
Teaming"
If you need to rush an outbound order out the door, or need to speed the inbound process, you can improve catchweight throughput by assigning each man to a lot on one order. For example, if you have an outbound order with five lots/line items, you can either assign that entire order to one man, or you can put five men on that batch, one man per lot. Truckers will not have to wait nearly as long. This reduces your chances of the penalties associated with excessive trucker wait times.
